| Baggage - What will you pack?
This section should give you some ideas and at the end of the section are checklists with handy recommendations for air travel. What you will need to take with you will be influenced by the type of activities you plan, the climate, the ages and number or your children and of course your personal preferences - these are my personal preferences which work well for my family, however, I have included a lot of optional items for you to chose what will suit your family best. The equipment suggestions are biased towards babies but include items useful for older children.
Your mode of transport will dictate how much you can take and how many kilograms you want to lug around, travelling by car or narrow boat allows you to transport more clutter and weight, but it is wise to always pack as little as you think you can get away with and leave sufficient space in your luggage for the holiday shopping bargains you are likely to bring home -especially if travelling somewhere where the Forex rates are in our favour.

| Baggage Identification To prevent people who may handle your baggage passing information on to burglars always use an address on your luggage labels other than your own if your house is going to be empty whilst you are away. Your work address may be a better alternative to Grandma's!
Put a around your case for extra security and so you can spot it quickly on the baggage carousel.
Once your bags are packed, keep them in sight at all times and never carry packages on behalf of anyone no matter how plausible they might seem.
Childrens trolly cases are great for kids to feel very grown up and part of the whole holiday experience. |
| Unaccompanied Baggage
If you really can't do without leaving the kitchen sink behind you could send it unaccompanied if you are travelling with one of the bigger airlines, or alternatively there are various specialist companies who offer this service and are recommended for those who would otherwise end up paying excess baggage charges.
Always pack toiletries in a zip-up plastic bag; the pressure on aircraft pops lids off with alarming regularity.
Roll clothes instead of folding, it creates less creases, honest! And as a lost luggage precaution, pack some of each family members clothes in each suitcase etc.
Finish packing the day before your trip to save rushing and place a copy of your itinerary in the top of each bag.
